Our Story

Coming from a family of 8 himself, Matt being the youngest, he learned from his father Bob Jones all about the sign industry. Bob Jones owned and operated Luminite (B&C Sign Company) for many years, providing Matt with a foundation that led to his inevitable endeavor of starting his own company. In December of 1998, Matt Jones and his wife Traci took a leap of faith—and bought a crane truck. That first purchase (from Matt’s brother Andy, no less) marked the very first asset of what would become Matthews Signs. With four kids at home and a dream that didn’t come with a roadmap, Matt hit the ground running—while Traci ran the office from the living room (proof that multi-tasking moms really do run the world). Their faith was that God would provide and that the company would be a legacy for others to adopt.

Through the Years

Matt started out subcontracting with Ultra Neon (yes, we’re proudly dating ourselves), and slowly but surely, the work began to grow. By 2013, the business had far outgrown a living room and the one-man hustle. Matt brought on his sister Carol to support the increasing workload, building a team that felt more like family than staff and they moved to its permanent home on South Quince Street in Escondido, California. Soon after, Julissa Siordia joined the office, and Jeff Stevens became a trusted hand in the field.

In 2016, Matthews Signs relaunched with Matt once again as sole proprietor and with a yard full of trucks, tools, and talent, the business was running full speed—and building a reputation synonymous with quality, reliability, and good old-fashioned hard work.

Then, life threw a curveball.

Matt was diagnosed with cancer, and the future of the company—and the family behind it—shifted. In true Jones fashion, the response was unity and faith in God. Matt’s brother Stephen stepped in to help oversee operations while Matt focused on his health and his family. With Stephen’s leadership, the company began laying the groundwork for a scalable, resilient business model.

Matt passed away in 2021, but his legacy—and the company he built—stood strong. His funeral brought many faces from the industry and all the lives he had touched together in the church he called home in Ramona. His son Justin continued working in the field, proudly carrying his father's name and spirit into every job site. Stephen remained at the helm, and the company grew further, even opening a Sacramento branch to serve Northern California. Stephen’s son, Dylan Jones, also joined the ranks, learning the ropes and preparing to take up the mantle.

By the end of 2023, Matthews Signs was managing two thriving locations, with a growing fleet of trucks and a dedicated crew to meet industry demands. But the following year brought more heartbreak. In January 2024, Justin Jones passed away—leaving behind not only a legacy of joy and dedication but the unforgettable image of his ever-present smile. In December, the family suffered another unimaginable loss with the passing of Stephen Jones, whose vision and drive had helped shape the company's expansion.

Today, Matthews Signs is led by Dylan Jones and Traci Jones—two hearts from different generations, bound by love, legacy, and a commitment to honoring those who came before them. Together, they steer a company built on resilience, family, and purpose. With the company President Julissa Siordia and the Service and Installation Director Jeff Stevens, the company has the support to grow for many years.

At Matthews Signs, we don’t just hang signs—we raise standards, lift spirits, and build lasting relationships. When you work with us, you’re not just a customer. You’re family. The Jones Family. The Matthews Signs Family. And that’s something we never take lightly.
